Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 9 Release Date Is Sooner Than You Think
Dungeon Crawler Carl readers may be among the luckiest fanbase in terms of the sheer amount of content available in the series and how quickly it was released since the first book. To put things into perspective, the first Dungeon Crawler Carl novel was self-published in October 2020, and by May 2026, the eighth installment, A Parade of Horribles, had already arrived. That’s eight substantial novels in less than six years, a publishing pace that puts some of fantasy’s biggest franchises to shame.
George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, for example, has just five main novels since A Game of Thrones debuted in 1996, with readers still waiting for The Winds of Winter more than 15 years after the last book. Even Rebecca Yarros’ enormously popular Fourth Wing series, which began in 2023, has only seen three main installments. Dinniman, meanwhile, has kept Carl and Donut’s story moving at an extraordinary pace, and he’s already released teaser chapters for Book 9 to boot.
All that is to say that, despite not having a specific release window for Book 9, currently titled The Beautiful Place, Dungeon Crawler Carl fans are likely to see it sooner rather than later.
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 9 Isn’t Far Off
Looking at Matt Dinniman’s publication history, the pace of Dungeon Crawler Carl has been remarkable, although the gaps between books have gradually grown longer, which is expected considering the books are also getting longer. The first novel debuted in 2020, followed by Carl’s Doomsday Scenario in January 2021, The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook in April, and The Gate of the Feral Gods in July. That amounts to four substantial novels released in less than a year, which is honestly wild.
Book 5, The Butcher’s Masquerade, dropped in February 2022, but from there, the gaps started to grow a bit as the narrative started to get a bit more complicated. Readers waited roughly 16 months for The Eye of the Bedlam Bride, which released in July 2023, and another 16 months for This Inevitable Ruin in November 2024. Finally, there was roughly another 18-month wait for A Parade of Horribles, which just launched earlier this year in May.
Fortunately, Dinniman has offered some insight into when readers might expect Book 9. In a July 2026 interview with West Sound Magazine, the author confirmed that work was underway and estimated a similar turnaround, saying, “About a year, give or take a few months.” At San Diego Comic-Con that same month, he also suggested that finishing Book 9 and a substantial portion of Book 10 would take approximately another year.
However, there’s an important complication with these final installments. Dinniman has confirmed that he’s effectively writing one enormous conclusion that will be published across two books. In an October interview with Collider, he described the process as “easily the most difficult thing I’ve ever written,” suggesting the finale could require additional time.
Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 9 Could Arrive In 2027
Based on the recent more-lengthy gaps between installments, late 2027 seems like a reasonable prediction for Book 9, although an early 2028 release certainly wouldn’t be surprising. Dinniman has already shared the prologue, Chapters 1–5, and an interlude with Patreon supporters, confirming substantial work is underway. For now, though, the book remains without an official release date.
Based on the content in those teaser chapters, Dinniman is off to a strong start with Book 9, even if it’s only a short taste of the larger release. If you are all caught up on Dungeon Crawler Carl and aren’t already part of Dinniman’s Patreon page, it’s well worth joining, and you can get a look at the preview teaser chapters for a few bucks a month. Further, you’ll get a look at any other preview content ahead of the actual book release, and updates on what’s going on in the author’s life as well.
Overall, Dinniman’s publishing history and projections for Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 9’s release are all incredibly promising indications that we’re likely to see The Beautiful Place sooner rather than later.
