The Boston Celtics made one of the more surprising trades that we’ve seen over the past few years, and not because trading Jaylen Brown was all that surprising, but because trading him to the Philadelphia 76ers wasn’t something that we were expecting to see.

The 76ers and Celtics making a trade almost feels similar to the Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers doing so. Many years ago, this just wasn’t something that would have happened around the NBA.

Times have changed, though, and as a result, many have questioned whether the Celtics made the right decision.

If you ask Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, this trade was as bad as it gets.

“No disrespect to Paul George, but this isn’t an even swap, if I’m Jayson Tatum, I’m livid because regardless of what anyone says, we all know the player that Jaylen Brown is and you gonna send this dude to the same division as me with a chip on his shoulder and I gotta play this man 4 times a year? What are we doing here?

“… Philly made out like bandits. You got rid of two first round picks which aren’t going to be top five picks, which aren’t gonna probably produce the caliber of player of Jaylen Brown,” Green said. “What a win! I can’t believe Jaylen Brown is headed to the Philadelphia 76ers, but my guy Bob [Myers] strikes again!”

I don’t think it’s crazy to say that this trade is bad, so to say. However, I also think some are forgetting how good Paul George has been in recent years.

I get that he hasn’t exactly played well in Philadelphia, and yes, his injury history is concerning, but this was a guy who was viewed as a top-10 player in the NBA not too long ago. It’s not the craziest idea to suggest that Boston didn’t make a horrible trade like Green is suggesting here. If not, I think we’ll all be able to agree with him at that point.
