Dolphins signing LB off Bengals practice squad

The Miami Dolphins opened up two roster spots on Monday when they placed running back De’Von Achane on injured reserve and released defensive lineman Keith Cooper Jr., but it didn’t take long for general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan to start filling them.

On Tuesday, KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reported that the Dolphins are signing linebacker Shaka Heyward off the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad.

Heyward, 26, played at Duke form 2018-22, recording 339 tackles (32.5 for a loss), 11.5 sacks, seven passes defensed, five fumble recoveries and four interceptions in 51 games.

While he went undrafted in 2023, the 6-foot-3, 238-pound linebacker signed with the Bengals and has spent the last three years with them. In 18 games, he’s recorded 22 tackles, one quarterback hit and a forced fumble.

He’ll join a Dolphins linebacker room that has lost Kyle Louis and Ronnie Harrison Jr. Now, he’ll be behind Jordyn Brooks, Jacob Rodriguez, Willie Gay and Jackson Woodard on the depth chart heading into Week 4.
