The Miami Dolphins have been running their offense without one of their top rookies over the last few weeks, but that could change in Week 7.
Caleb Douglas, Miami’s third-round pick out of Texas Tech, had a solid start to season, catching seven passes for 113 yards in the first two weeks of the season. However, he suffered an ankle injury in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers that has kept him off the field since then.
According to Jeff Hafley, Douglas is expected to be back on the practice field on Monday, as the team prepares for their division showdown with the New York Jets.
“Caleb will be limited today,” Hafley told reporters on Monday “We’ll see how he looks today and progress to Wednesday, but I think there’s optimism there. Let’s see how it goes today, and if he can get ramped up on Wednesday, it’d be good to get him back out there… To see a rookie have to start and start like, it’s not ideal, but he’s worked really. It’d be great to get him back.”
In Miami’s season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders, Douglas played 51 offensive snaps and received the second-most targets (seven) of any of Malik Willis’ weapons.
The Dolphins‘ offense, especially their passing attack, has struggled a lot this year, so adding another receiver who can get open back to the mix would be great.
