With the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts ‘couldn’t imagine’ theLos Angeles Dodgers preparing for Game 3 of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, the biggest storyline surrounding the team has been around superstar Shohei Ohtani. As Ohtani is staying in the Dodgers’ lineup for Game 3 despite the slump, teammate Mookie Betts would give his take on the matter.

There’s no denying that Ohtani is in the midst of a frustrating slump as the year has been a tumultuous one, mostly caused by injuries in the back half of the season, which has impacted his play since the beginning of September. Hitting a .200 batting average and .150 in the postseason so far, Betts would candidly say how he “couldn’t imagine” the expectations that are attached to Ohtani for Wednesday and beyond.

“I couldn’t imagine really kind of having the expectations that he has and falling short in a way that it’s not normal for him. Then having to come back and be present in this postseason knowing how important he is to the boys,” Betts said, according to Bob Nightengale.

With the Dodgers down 0-2 in the series to the Brewers in the NLCS, Ohtani’s impact has been limited, with the conversation persisting about him being benched. While Los Angeles will keep him in the lineup, as any hitter such as himself could be one swing away from getting out of the rut, the one aspect that’s for certain in Betts’ eyes is that Ohtani is “trying” to turn it around.

“It’s just really, really hard,” Betts said. “It’s really hard to make these slight adjustments in this short amount of time. Like I said, it took me almost two years. I feel for him. I know he’s grinding; he’s working. So we’ll just see. We’ll see how he comes and prepares.”

“But I know he’s giving it his all,” Betts continued. “We know he’s giving it his all. We can at least lay our heads on a pillow at night knowing that we’ve given it everything.”

It remains to be seen if Ohtani can turn it around and help the Dodgers.
