Dodgers’ Fatal Flaw Strikes Again in Heartbreaking Cardinals Loss

Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 8-6 in a thrilling game that resulted in another gut punch.

The Dodgers led for most of the game, but the pitching staff’s rare struggles continued on the night after allowing 13 runs.

Freddie Freeman had a three-run homer at one point to give Yoshinobu Yamamoto a 3-0 lead, more than he usually gets, but after bringing a no-hitter to the sixth inning, Yamamoto had somewhat of an implosion.

He allowed four runs, which came on two different two-run home runs, one in the sixth inning and another in the seventh inning.

However, Mookie Betts delivered a two-run shot himself in the sixth inning that gave the Dodgers a 5-4 lead all the way into the top of the eighth inning.

Betts is really starting to build on things in terms of hitting, with those hard hits turning into slugging.

Tanner Scott came in during the 8th and allowed a lead-off double that eventually came to score on a sacrifice fly. It tied the game and marked the start of the Dodgers’ downfall.

The Dodgers and Cardinals held even at 5 apiece until the top of the 10th inning, when Brock Stewart coughed up three runs and gave the Dodgers a three-run hole that proved to be too much.

However, the game was lost much before that, as the Dodgers went just 1-for-18 from runners on scoring position.

LA did a fantastic job putting pressure on the pitching staff and, once again, generating offense that kept them on the ropes, but with runners in scoring position, they failed to deliver.

The Dodgers get Tarik Skubal on the mound for Thursday’s series finale, but it does not matter who pitches if the team cannot deliver in key moments, either offensively or in high-leverage relief spots relief-wise.

Skubal will give them another fresh chance, but things will need to change in terms of process.
