Dodgers Could Get Unexpected Pitching Boost From Gavin Stone, Bobby Miller

The Los Angeles Dodgers have two pitchers back on the mound who have been missing all year long — Gavin Stone and Bobby Miller.

Miller and Stone have not pitched competitively throughout the season, leaving them on the outskirts of the 40-man roster on the 60-day injured list.

However, they are both with the Oklahoma City Comets in Triple-A, emerging once again as the postseason nears.

Miller and Stone were grinding in Arizona at the Dodgers’ complex, and now, they have made enough progress to join the Comets, according to Alex Freedman, broadcaster for the minor league affiliate.

Miller is bouncing back from a back injury, which surfaced after he dealt with shoulder pain. He got an injection and responded well with his shoulder, but then the back problem came.

Now, as of June, Miller has not dealt with another setback. He is returning to the minor leagues with a relief role possibly waiting with the major league club.

“I’m ready for whatever role,” Miller said. “Whatever gets me back to the big leagues and contributing to the team. That’s all I care about.”

Miller has ridiculous stuff, with a high-velocity fastball and secondary offerings that are quite tempting. Command is the biggest issue for Miller, and he will need to show control if he wants another MLB chance.

Stone had a promising start to Spring Training, finally pitching after more than a year recovering from shoulder surgery, but shoulder discomfort forced him to be shut down.

He has been throwing on and off again, facing a ton of obstacles in his battle. Stone started 25 games for the Dodgers in 2024 before his shoulder surgery.

He had a stellar 3.53 ERA in 140.1 innings of work. Stone had 116 strikeouts and 37 walks, and he looked to be an emerging starter.

Stone was a former top 100 prospect and looked to be another gem from the Andrew Friedman era.

Now at the age of 27, two years removed from his last major league pitch, Stone could come back and, like Miller, contribute to the major league club and possibly break into the postseason roster.
