The Los Angeles Dodgers lost the final game of the 2026 Freeway Series to the Los Angeles Angels, 13-5.
The Dodgers won the previous five games of the series, sweeping the Angels in Anaheim and taking the first two games of their series at home, but couldn’t get the job done after a rough start from Emmet Sheehan.
Sheehan allowed two runs through 1.1 innings pitched, throwing a total of 49 pitches on the day. He navigated the first inning without much issue, but the Angels got to him in the second. After recording the first out of the frame, Sheehan allowed a single and two walks to load the bases.
The Angels cashed in on their opportunity, scoring two runs on the following batter to strike first in the game. After allowing those two runs, Sheehan came out of the game.
Edgardo Henriquez relieved Sheehan, and managed to get out of the inning without allowing any more damage.
The Dodgers managed to pull a run back a couple of innings later, as Kyle Tucker drove in Shohei Ohtani with a dribbler. Freddie Freeman advanced to second on the play, but didn’t come home to score.
The Angels extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning, as another two-run single made the score 4-1. They didn’t stop there, though, as they plated two more runs in the following half-inning to extend their lead to five.
The Dodgers staged a comeback attempt in the bottom of the sixth, as Dalton Rushing hit his first home run since April 20—a three-run shot—to make the score 6-4.
Ryan Ward hit his second MLB home run directly after, cutting the Angels’ lead to just one.
That didn’t last long, though, as the Angels put together a six-run seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Jo Adell hit his 10th homer of the season to score two runs for the visitors, and three consecutive singles added another run to the Angels’ total. Zach Neto capped off the inning with a three-run shot to center, making the score 12-5.
The Dodgers managed to get a baserunner or two in each of the following innings, but couldn’t bring them home.
The bottom of the Angels’ lineup stung the Dodgers all game, and continued to do so in the top of the ninth, when No. 9 hitter Sebastian Rivero doubled to score the Angels’ 13th run of the game.
LA hadn’t allowed double-digit runs all season before Sunday’s game.
The Dodgers will look to bounce back in their next series, which begins against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.
