Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo left Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park after he was struck on the helmet by a line drive off the bat of teammate Ketel Marte.

Perdomo was on first base after a third-inning single when Marte pulled a line drive at 93 mph off the bat. Perdomo jumped and raised his arms to try to deflect the ball, but it struck him on the helmet.

Perdomo stayed down on the infield dirt for several minutes while being checked by a team trainer. Teammates and several Astros players gathered nearby, some kneeling, as Perdomo was evaluated.

Perdomo eventually walked off the field under his own power. He was replaced on defense in the next half-inning, however. The Diamondbacks announced later that Perdomo left with a “head contusion.”

Entering the day, Perdomo had a .250/.357/.365 slash line over 138 games this season and was fourth among Diamondbacks players with 4.1 wins above replacement, per Baseball Reference.
