LATEST Sept. 10, 6:50 p.m. San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling has been ruled out of the Week 1 contest against the Los Angeles Rams after he was spotted being carted off the Melbourne Cricket Ground field on Friday morning.

The 49ers’ top draft pick in 2026 suffered what appeared to be a non-contact injury in the second quarter and had to be helped off the field to the blue medical tent. After spending time in there while the 49ers scored a touchdown, the Netflix broadcast showed Stribling being driven off the field on the cart while the Rams had the ball. Stribling had his left leg hanging off of the cart, with his shoe and sock both removed and his foot dangling over the edge.

At the two-minute warning, the 49ers ruled Stribling out for the rest of the game with what they are calling an ankle injury. But the concerning video of him being carted off is raising concerns about how serious the injury could be.

Sept. 10, 6:30 p.m. San Francisco 49ers wide receiver De’Zhuan Stribling, the team’s top draft pick in 2026, left the season-opening matchup against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia with an injury.

Stribling was spotted going into the blue medical tent later in the first quarter. Shortly after, the team said he was questionable to return with an ankle injury. But Stribling returned to the field on the team’s first drive of the second quarter.

Then, on the third play of the fourth drive, Stribling went down grabbing his leg and needed medical attention. A replay showed Stribling pull up with the injury near midfield while the 49ers were back in their own territory. It did not appear Stribling made contact with any Rams player at the time of the injury. Stribling needed to be helped off the field, and the team has not said what the injury he suffered in the second quarter was.

Stribling played on the most offensive snaps of any of San Francisco’s receivers early in the game. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell noted he was at 12 snaps through the first quarter, and Pro Football Focus analyst Nathan Jahnke had Stribling at a team-high 18 snaps after the third drive. Despite the high snap-count, Stribling had not even been targeted once through the first three drives.

The rookie was taken with the No. 33 overall pick, the first of the second round, by San Francisco after the 49ers traded down twice from their original first-round slot at No. 27.
