With Dexter: Resurrection bringing the infamous killer back for another chapter, viewers need to remember a few key details before diving into what comes next. The first season wasted no time getting into the thick of things, with Dexter and Harrison’s lives turning upside down when the police begin suspecting the latter of murder. Though Resurrection is an intense new addition to the Dexter franchise, it also offers several heartwarming moments, particularly in its father-and-son relationship.
With Dexter: Resurrection season 2 just around the corner, several details have been revealed about the upcoming installment, most of them connecting to what happened in season 1. According to the released plot details, Dexter: Resurrection‘s sophomore season will have a three-year time jump, leaving audiences to wonder what happened to the antihero while he was away.
Though Dexter narrowly escaped being caught, the trailer for Dexter: Resurrection season 2 reveals that his murderous urges are still very much alive since he will be hunting down the New York Ripper, a serial killer introduced in season 1. From Angel Batista’s appearance in Dexter’s life to the antihero making friends with the same killing instincts, Dexter: Resurrection season 1 had a lot to offer.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 1’s Biggest Story Details To Remember
In just 10 episodes, Dexter: Resurrection season 1 packed in many significant moments, but some are more essential to the series’ plot and its upcoming installment.
Harrison Struggled With His Own Dark Passenger
Resurrection picks up right after the ending of Dexter: New Blood, but this time Harrison has moved to New York after shooting his father. At his new job at the Empire Hotel as a bellhop, the haunted Harrison encounters Ryan Foster, a sexual predator who plans to assault a drugged Shauna, one of the other guests at the hotel. At first, Harrison was going to let whatever was happening between them go.
However, his moral code prevented him from doing so, and thus he followed them into the hotel room, murdering Ryan in cold blood, then chopping up his body into nine pieces, just as his father had taught him. Unlike Dexter, who found joy in killing, Harrison was haunted by what he had done and almost confessed to the murder, particularly because Detective Wallace was onto him. However, an appearance from his father kept him from doing so. In the end, Ryan’s death was pinned on Lady Vengeance.
Dexter Joined A Secret Serial Killer Society
Dexter’s lifestyle means he is often lonely, since most serial killers prefer to work alone and don’t exactly advertise their extracurricular activities. So it’s no wonder that when he found Leon Prater’s invitation in Red’s backpack about joining a serial killer secret society, he couldn’t resist the temptation to go. For one, it would mean finding new people to relieve his urge, and for another, he could interact with those he shared a kinship with.
Dexter, being Dexter, couldn’t just let his new serial killer friends be, and so he started picking them off one by one, more because they had no code for their killing as he did. Eventually, Charley realized he was the reason the once-peaceful group was suddenly filled with mayhem. Prater’s serial killer club also provided an opportunity for Dexter to blame Ryan Foster’s gruesome murder on Lady Vengeance, who conveniently died in police custody before she could identify him.
Harrison And Dexter Became Closer
At the end of Dexter: New Blood, Harrison had shot his father, but Dexter, of course, did not perish. Their relationship, to put it mildly, wasn’t perfect, mostly because Dexter thought Harrison had the same urge to kill, only to realize he was completely different. Even when Dexter followed his son to New York, he didn’t exactly become father of the year, because he was too consumed with finding the Dark Passenger’s identity.
Thankfully, the antihero came to his senses and decided to show up for his son. He even orchestrated the plan that ended with Lady Vengeance in jail to save Harrison from going to prison. By the time Dexter: Resurrection season 1 ends, father and son are closer than ever and finally learn to trust and lean on each other.
Angel Batista Closed In On Dexter
Dexter has a lot of rules, but one that he’s followed religiously is to never get caught. Unfortunately for him, Angel Batista, his friend from Miami, had reason to believe that Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher. So, when he visited the antihero after his near-death experience, the retired detective was certain that Dexter was the serial killer he had been hunting during the latter part of his career. However, being sure isn’t the same thing as having evidence. So when Dexter leaves Iron Lake, Angel is following closely behind.
When Angel arrives in New York, new information about the murder of Ryan Foster cements his belief about Dexter, especially because the killing happened at the Empire Hotel where Harrison works. He begins to follow Dexter to catch him in the act, but even as he comes close to finding evidence of his crimes, the serial killer proves why he has evaded arrest for decades.
The Season 1 Finale Ends With Major Losses
In true Dexter fashion, theDexter: Resurrection season 1 featured multiple deaths and shocking reveals. In the penultimate episode, Dexter was convinced Charley had to go, but he discovered Prater had been pulling the strings all along. So the serial killer pivoted and decided that Prater could not continue living.
Though the plan to take out the billionaire was solid, Dexter faced one unforeseen circumstance: Angel showed up at Prater’s mansion and revealed all his dirty secrets. Faced with no other option after Angel attempted to kill Dexter, Prater shot the former detective multiple times, and he in turn fell at the hand of Dexter.
Harrison Decided To Become A Police Officer
Following the murder of Ryan Foster, Harrison was wracked with guilt and nightmares. So it’s even more surprising that he decided to become a police officer. However, his family is filled with people who have worked in law enforcement, including his grandfather, aunt, and even his father himself, who worked as a forensic blood analyst for the Miami-Metro Police Department. Harrison becoming a police officer obviously brings challenges. He knows what his father does, and he’s committed a crime himself, so when the time comes, will Harrison be friend or foe to Dexter?
The Identity Of The New York Ripper Was Revealed
For years, Dexter has prided himself on finding the worst of the worst and bringing them to his table. However, that doesn’t mean that he has killed every serial killer in the US, let alone the world. Thanks to Prater’s little serial killer club, Dexter was able to discover who the New York Ripper is; thus, his next victim was found. The trailer for Dexter: Resurrection season 2 revealed that, even after three years, the New York Ripper still haunted Dexter’s mind. But Dexter will not be the only one hunting down the notorious killer. Detective Wallace is as intent on bringing him down as the show’s main protagonist.
