DeVonta Smith stands two catches from Eagles franchise history

DeVonta Smith is two receptions away from becoming the fastest player in Philadelphia Eagles history to reach 400.

Smith’s 10-catch performance against the Tennessee Titans increased his regular-season total to 398 receptions through 82 games. According to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia via team record books, if he catches at least two passes against the Chicago Bears, Smith will reach the milestone in his 83rd game. Zach Ertz currently holds the franchise mark after making his 400th reception during his 86th game with Philadelphia.

Smith’s latest performance also moved him higher on another significant Eagles list. His 117-yard afternoon against Tennessee marked the 16th 100-yard receiving game of his career, the seventh-highest total in franchise history.

Pete Retzlaff holds the Eagles record with 23. A.J. Brown has 22, while Harold Carmichael, Mike Quick and DeSean Jackson each recorded 21. Tommy McDonald finished with 17. Smith could tie McDonald with one more 100-yard performance and is only seven away from matching Retzlaff.

The numbers reflect the consistency Smith has provided since Philadelphia selected him in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. He has produced as a featured receiver, secondary option and postseason performer while becoming one of Jalen Hurts’ most trusted targets. That connection was decisive against Tennessee. Smith caught four passes for 38 yards during the winning drive, including a 19-yard reception that placed Philadelphia at the Titans’ 3-yard line.

Smith’s next two catches will make history. His current pace suggests he’ll do much more.
