Deal off: Liverpool take dramatic last-minute u-turn to collapse agreement

Liverpool have taken a dramatic u-turn in one deal. It’s now off as things stand, despite an agreement.

Liverpool are working hard, apparently, to seal some deals before the end of the transfer window. They’ve left things ridiculously late, however, meaning it’s very difficult to know what’s possible right now.

Can they get players over the line? Can they move on those they don’t intend to use? All we know for sure is that certain deals will not go the way Liverpool hope, with less money coming in and more money going out than they’d ideally like.

One such outgoing deal is for Stefan Bajcetic. The one-time great hope of Liverpool’s midfield has been battling injuries for years now and hasn’t had a place in the squad.

Some productive loan deals elsewhere showed promise, particularly in his native Spain. It’s now expected that he’ll head back there permanently, with Celta – his original club before moving to Anfield – wanting him back.

However, journalist Diego Otero claims Liverpool have now u-turned on a deal. The terms were agreed for ‘amost’ a free transfer, which we’ll take to mean a very minimal fee.

Liverpool no longer agree to those terms, though. They now want between €1.5m and €2m in order to sell Bajcetic back to Celta.

It’s a strange one. Liverpool have no place for Bajcetic and if he doesn’t move to Celta, we can only see his contract winding down before a free transfer next summer.

Unless, of course, another team has come in with an offer for him. That may have led to Liverpool suddenly bumping up their asking price and going back on their initial agreement.

Time will tell if that’s the case but everyone is running out of it.
