Dead End Job Season 2: Release Date, Story & Everything We Know

Shealyn Scott is a Senior Writer at Screen Rant. She has been writing for the site since 2024, focused on network, reality, streaming, and classic television.
A creative writer, journalist, and lover of the written word in all its forms, Shealyn enjoys deconstructing scenes from her favorite shows, using context clues and historical precedent to predict major plot points (which, due to her successful track record, has sparked rumors of clairvoyance).
As an award-winning student journalist, Shealyn spent her college years advocating for the humanities while studying English Literature. Her love of storytelling propelled her to expand her degree with minors in Writing and History, believing life to be a mere collection of stories that can be framed in as many ways as a movie scene.
As a Senior member of the TV Team, Shealyn treats the series she covers like books, analyzing every line, camera angle, and lighting choice. Thankfully, her personal mission statement lines up perfectly with Screen Rant: every creative work deserves just as much thought from the viewer as it received from its creator.

SPOILERS AHEAD for Dead-End Job season 1.After eight high-octane episodes of supernatural thrills and chills, the future of Dead-End Job remains unclear. Following Lee Jae-wook as Byeon Hyuk-jun, a heavily indebted man desperate for work, Netflix’s latest K-drama sensation blends the morbidly whimsical life-or-death scenarios of Squid Game with deeply emotional subplots that cut through the terror with shockingly poignant twists. Without question, Dead-End Job is already one of Netflix’s best new shows of 2026— but, sadly, its fate beyond season 1, episode 8 is still up in the air.

The horror elements of Dead-End Job tap into universal anxieties, providing some pithy commentary on capitalism while Hyuk-jun takes on a sinister amusement park, killer game show, and spine-chilling convenience store— each its own fully realized nightmare that preys on the protagonist’s money stress with unrelenting chaos. Despite rave reviews and outspoken viewer support, however, it’s possible that Netflix may squander the lingering potential of Dead-End Job. Of course, that’s not to say there’s no hope for the K-drama’s possible renewal.

Dead-End Job Is Not Yet Renewed For Season 2

As of early November 2026, Netflix has not made a definitive decision regarding the future of Dead-End Job. Given the series only recently premiered on October 30, its spot in renewal/cancelation limbo is no cause for concern— at least not yet. Unfortunately, there are countless beloved Netflix K-dramas that never earned a second season, in spite of a breakout debut (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Celebrity, Parsyte: The Grey, etc.).

Conversely, some Netflix original K-drama productions are planned far in advance, with renewals announced as soon as the first batch of episodes drop. Consequently, the supernatural drama may have been conceived as a limited series, but ratings and public opinion of season 1 may tip the scales and convince Netflix to green-light Dead-End Job season 2.

Although early reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, it’s too soon to tell what will happen with Dead-End Job. To that end, Netflix may announce a renewal in days, attempt to generate buzz in early 2027, or leave the series hanging in production purgatory until it has decidedly fallen out of vogue. Alas, even if Netflix ordered Dead-End Job season 2 immediately, it likely wouldn’t hit screens anytime soon.

When Will Dead-End Job Season 2 Potentially Release?

The select group of K-dramas lucky enough to become multi-season titles in Netflix’s extensive libraries have proven that renewal doesn’t guarantee a quick turnaround. For instance, half a decade will have passed before All of Us Are Dead fans watch the season 2 premiere (expected in 2027), while Squid Game‘s second installment was released three years after its record-breaking debut in 2021.

In stark contrast, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call seasons 2 and 3 are in production simultaneously, and the anticipated release is hardly a demanding wait. As such, without any added variables, a K-drama’s second season could take years. Yet, considering lead actor Lee Jae-wook is currently fulfilling his compulsory military service until November 2027, Dead-End Job season 2 couldn’t possibly premiere until late 2028 or early 2029 at the earliest. Regardless, one major change could expedite the process: recasting Byeon Hyuk-jun.

What Dead-End Job Season 2’s Story Will Be

Irrefutably, the globally trending horror K-drama can stand on its own as a concise, eight-episode binge. Nevertheless, Dead-End Job clearly set the stage for season 2 to follow Hyuk‑jun investigating the true nature of Spider Staffing Agency. Though the audience isn’t privy to Hyuk-jun’s answer to the offer of becoming Mr. S’ (Lee Hee-joon) successor, the story can only go one of two ways: he accepts the position and tries to take it down from the inside, or he rejects it to uncover the larger, underlying conspiracy.

Likewise, the fates of Mr. S and Eum Yeon-joo (Go Min-si) are left purposely ambiguous; both may have died after being absorbed by the other world, or they could return to fight in a new, even more monstrous form. Either way, Dead-End Job season 2 would have plenty of questions to answer, not least of which pertaining to Yeon-joo’s tragic backstory and Byeon Ji-yoon’s (Kim Min-ha) role in the overarching plot. Whether a fresh face takes up the mantle as the main character or Netflix waits for Lee Jae-wook’s discharge, however, Dead-End Job season 2 already feels like a must.
