Victor Wembanyama has notably struggled in the two first halves he has played in the 2026 NBA Finals. The San Antonio Spurs have suffered because of it, because they keep needing to mount comebacks, and the New York Knicks are resilient enough to hold on to the leads they built.
It seems De’Aaron Fox has been a vital presence in the locker room who is motivating Wembanyama during the half-time break. He talked about this after Game 2, as he gave details on what happened during halftime.

Wembanyama has been stellar in the second halves of Games 1 and 2. Before that, it appears that Karl-Anthony Towns is dominating their matchup. That was not what people expected from this series, but Towns continues to impress people.
Wemby can be a much better and more impactful player when he is aggressive. He tends to pass up shots at times, and he does not use his size advantage as often as people would like.

That is why Fox, his teammates, and the Spurs‘ coaching staff want Wembanyama to be aggressive. He is talented and physically ahead of everyone on the floor, so he can be unstoppable when he wants to.
“We came in, and we’re like, ‘we need you to be aggressive.’ That is what it is. He came out in the second half, and obviously, he was much better for us,” Fox said about how he and the Spurs motivate Wemby ahead of the second half.
As long as the Knicks are seeing Wembanyama play passive basketball, they will win this series. The Spurs are still alive, but they need to be much better in Game 3, which should involve an aggressive Wembanyama from the jump.
