Davies hails ‘massive win’ for Birmingham City – and urges forward Vasquez to move on quickly after horror miss

Chris Davies has backed Luis Vazquez to bounce back after the Birmingham City striker produced a remarkable late miss in their 2-1 win over Derby County.

Goals from Carlos Vicente and Seung-Ho Paik earned Blues a valuable victory, but Vazquez passed up a golden opportunity to add another late on.

Davies believes a bobble contributed to the miss and told the forward not to dwell on the moment.

“I said to him in the dressing room, ‘You’ve got to smile about it’. It’s football. It can happen to the best of them,” Davies said.

“It took a bobble. I saw it take a bobble – no doubt about it.

“He gave a great shift for the team, he did his work and the mark of any sportsman is you just bounce back and go again.”

Davies was delighted with the result after a demanding week.

“It was a massive win, a win that had a bit of everything in terms of the way we went about it,” he added.

“To win it and win it in the way we did was pretty special today.”
