David Tennant & Olivia Colman’s 24-Part Crime Masterpiece Leaves Netflix In Just 7 Days

Don’t wait to watch this crime mystery masterpiece starring Olivia Colman and David Tennant because in just seven days, it’s going to be leaving Netflix. There are a handful of shows that people will ask you all your life if you’ve seen them or not, and if the answer is “no”, they throw up their hands and insist you must watch that show next.

Invariably, you agree. You’re not against good TV shows, and you may even have already had that show on your list of series to watch. But there’s only so much time, and with everyone making suggestions, you can’t possibly watch every single show deigned a “masterpiece” or the “best ‘x’ show ever”.

So with that in mind, let me suggest a TV show that you must watch next. I have a very good reason to do so, though. Broadchurch is one of the great detective mysteries of the 21st century. This three-season, 24-episode drama stars Colman as DS Ellie Miller and Tennant as DI Alec Hardy.

Hardy is new to the Dorset coastal town of Broadchurch, where Miller has long been a figure of the police force. The detectives’ introduction is strained due to Miller being passed over for DI in favor of Hardy, but their professional rivalry is put on the back burner when the body of a local 11-year-old boy turns up on the beach.

The tight-knit community is rattled by the death and suspicious of one another, after Hardy and Miller realize that the culprit must be someone in town. Seasons 2 and 3 build upon the first, with the reverberations of the murder and the case having long-lasting effects on the people of Broadchurch. It’s a brilliant, hauntingly real, unexpectedly funny story you need to watch now.

Broadchurch Is Leaving Netflix In The United States On November 1

Broadchurch should be high on your list of shows to watch for many reasons, but the most important is that, in seven days, it will be leaving Netflix, on which it’s been available since November 1st 2025 (via WhatsOnNetflix). Broadchurch had been on Netflix previously for years, before it was pulled from Netflix U.S. catalogs in 2021.

So don’t expect the series to come back anytime soon. It took four years last time. Without Netflix, Broadchurch will only be available to stream on Peacock, Roku, and a handful of other lesser-known streaming services. Each episode is 46–51 minutes, so it might be a bit of a marathon with a last-mile sprint to get it all done.

David Tennant & Olivia Colman’s Procedural Mystery Is Among This Century’s Very Best

You will certainly not mind binging Broadchurch, and even if you did not know it was going to be off Netflix, there’s a good chance you would end up blowing through the show in a similar amount of time. It’s just that good. The first season, in particular, is one of the high watermarks of 21st-century TV storytelling, up there with the likes of True Detective season 1.

Seasons 2 and 3 can’t quite match the incredible highs of season 1, but they are still fantastic in their own right, and once you finish season 1, you’ll wish for ten seasons of Broadchurch just so you can stick with the characters for longer. Do yourself a favor and don’t look up anything about the show or watch any trailers.

Broadchurch aims for realism, and captures it. There’s a documentary quality to the film style, and the acting is naturalistic and subtle. What really helps the show soar is its balance of tones. There are wounded, dark characters in the series, but like in life, there are surprising moments of comedy and cheer that ensure the disturbing criminal cases don’t weigh things down so much.
