David Raum has revealed he has yet to hold talks with RB Leipzig about his future, having just one year left on his current deal.
The 28-year-old RB Leipzig captain told Sky Germany that he’s still waiting for an approach from the club, with his decision on his future depending on the club’s plans and what they have to offer.
“I have to say that things are still very quiet. We simply haven’t talked much about it here, just like I haven’t talked much with other clubs. Right now, I’m focused on this year here, getting fit and ready after the World Cup, and I want to have another top season here,” Raum said, adding:
“It’s up to the club to decide when they approach me, what they offer, how much appreciation they show, what their plans are for me, and where they want to go in the coming years. Of course, I have to listen to that and make my own decision. I’m 28 now, and naturally I also have dreams and goals. You always have to see how that fits together with the club’s plans, ideas and objectives for the next few years.
“As things stand, I’m fully focused on Leipzig, of course. I want to make this season as positive as possible, and we’ll have to see about everything else. But at the moment, it’s still very quiet.”
Asked if a transfer this summer is out of the question, Raum replied:
“You never know what will happen. The club generally doesn’t like to let a player run down his contract. I don’t know what they have planned with me. At the moment, it doesn’t look like they want to sell me or get rid of me. I feel a lot of appreciation here, I feel very comfortable, and I’m also in very good contact with the people responsible at the club. We’ve had very positive conversations about the team.
“We haven’t really talked much about my role in terms of the contract yet, I can honestly say that. Those talks are still to come. As I said, I’m focusing completely on what happens on the pitch, and I’m not someone who is putting pressure on things in either direction,” he added.
