Dana White agrees that two rivals coaching “The Ultimate Fighter” would be a good idea.
Paddy Pimblett (24-4 MMA, 8-1 UFC) wants to settle his rivalry with Ilia Topuria (17-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) by coaching the next season of ‘TUF’ opposite side “El Matador.”
Viewers have complained that for the past couple of seasons, the coaches didn’t end up fighting as the retired Michael Bisping, Daniel Cormier, and Chael Sonnen took on those roles. White seemed enthusiastic about the possibility.
“I love the idea of that, but a lot of things determine how things play out,” White said during the UFC 332 post-fight news conference. “Not just for ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ but certain fights and title fights. I don’t know. We’ll see how the timing plays out, but that would definitely be a good one.”
Pimblett has been angling to fight former UFC dual-champion Topuria for a while now. With Topuria losing his lightweight title to Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250, and Pimblett rebounding with a quick submission of Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 329, the matchup now makes more sense than ever.
