Gable Steveson suffered a horrible 12-second knockout at UFC 331.
The Olympian entered the fight as the biggest favorite on the card, but Sean Sharaf wasn’t deterred. The heavyweight was 0-2 in the promotion before stepping into the octagon against the undefeated, physical freak that is Steveson. One sensational performance against all odds later, and Sharaf’s life has changed. And so has Steveson’s, but for the wrong reasons.
On top of the allegations that continue to stain his name, Gable Steveson is dealing with his first MMA career loss. Familiar with losing and bouncing back throughout his wrestling career, Steveson is confident he’ll put this defeat behind him and propel toward his goal of becoming a UFC champion.
Sharing his belief is Dana White. Speaking about the shocking result, White agreed that if Steveson truly has the determination to right the wrongs and become great, he will, saying:
“He lost. I mean, people lose; it happens. He was a huge favorite, and he lost. It’s not like we come back on Tuesday and go, ‘Oh, that’s the end of him.’ You know what I mean? People lose. It happens. And if he believes that he’s going to come back, then he will.”
Gable Steveson embraced his inner heel ahead of UFC 331. Many fans do not like Steveson, and they weren’t afraid to let him know. However, after decades in the sport, Dana White knows that success in the octagon isn’t tied to how many people like you.
“I don’t think anything about it. I mean, it happens,” White continued. “Our fans, man. They know who they like and who they don’t. Our fans are so educated. It’s like, if a guy on the first prelim of the night doesn’t make weight, when he comes out for the ceremonials, they start booing him. The fans are dialed in on that sh*t, man. They know what they like and what they don’t.”
