Over the past three weeks, the Dan Orlovsky reveals how Steelers’ offensePittsburgh Steelers‘ offense has taken a serious step forward, but why?
Discussing what he’s seen from Pittsburgh over the first five weeks of the 2026 season and how the offense has taken a step forward over the last three on ESPN’s NFL Live, Dan Orlovsky condensed it down to two points that appear key to the early-season evolution.
“Some of your young offensive linemen got like nasty to him when he watched their tape (Mason) McCormick, Max (Iheanachor). Darnell Washington is a key in for me in their run game. I think the two things that, game-wise, I’ve really started to watch or enjoy watching the evolution of. One, Aaron’s legs, you know, like there are three or four clips again where he’s moving in a way we’re like, ‘Okay,’ you know? And I don’t know if he’s taking less hits or not getting smoked as much; I know in the New England game he did, but that’s really kind of helping the flow of the offense.

“The other thing is, and this is from Adam Thielen working with him on Wednesdays, how you can know how much he trusts a guy by how quickly he’ll get the ball to him. He trusts Germie Bernard. Germie Bernard’s role just continues to grow and grow and grow in this offense, and I love when they pair him and Freiermuth together. This offense is very different right now than it was in Week 1.”
After some struggles early on, recording just 265 total yards in Week 1 and 235 in Week 2, the Steelers have picked up at least 350 yards in each of the last three weeks, averaging almost 30 points, 256 passing yards, and 119 rushing yards against the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, and Indianapolis Colts. While those three teams aren’t exactly worldbeaters, if Orlovsky is correct, the improvements should be sustainable, which is good news for when the schedule gets even tougher down the line.
