D-backs @ Padres discussion

I want to apologize for last night’s Gameday Thread, which should have been more rigorously moderated. I wasn’t paying attention and got blindsided by the sudden arrival of “new” accounts posting incendiary comments. I’ll be more attentive today. This game, if ever there was one, is one for 100% getting behind the team, if you are genuinely a fan of the D-backs. There will be plenty of time for any Monday morning quarterbacking managing on… Well, Monday morning. We’ll certainly be doing that as appropriate. But, today: to quote the great philosopher, Eugenio Suarez: “Good vibes only”. This is not a request, and “I didn’t read the intro!” will not be considered a defense. 🙂

Very much an all hands on deck situation, obviously. Gabriel Moreno is back in the line-up at DH, despite his hamstring issue. He could just sit it out and win the NL batting title. But he’s in there, and all the respect in the world to him for it. Welp, never mind. A late scratch sees him out and Pavin Smith taking over at DH instead, with Tim Tawa coming into the line-up at first. Now, where was I? The same goes to everyone else, who has helped the team overcome the odds – barely a week ago, they had a 5.6% chance of making the playoffs – to enter the final game of the regular season with a decent shot. Of course, they still require help. But considering the vastly superior resources of the Phillies, with $128 million more in cash payroll, that’s it’s simply still a fight is still impressive to me.

Indeed, as shown above, of the six teams currently ahead of the D-backs in the NL standings, five of them have at least a $45 million advantage over Arizona in that department. Also underscores the amazing job the Brewers have done, with the youngest and cheapest team (those two things are likely related, obviously). Just a shame we’re not in the American League, where Arizona’s current 86 wins would be sufficient to win the Central and West. Somehow, I feel sure this is Torey’s fault. 🙂 Anyway. We will roll the dice and see what happens!
