Cubs Minor League Update: 3 Prospects Making Their Mark

It’s not always easy to see which prospects are doing well in the minors. Most games aren’t on TV, and most fans are only worried about the big league club.

Here at cubs">Cubs Roundtable, we bring that information to you. 

Every few weeks, we take a look around the Chicago Cubs’ farm system and dive into which prospects are surging in the minors. It could be a hitter in the midst of a nice stretch or a pitcher showing off his upside. 

These are the three Cubs’ prospects currently trending up right now. 

Josiah Hartshorn 

Josiah Hartshorn has wasted no time making an immediate impact in his first professional season. The Cubs selected Hartshorn in the sixth round of the 2025 MLB Draft, and the 19-year-old outfielder has been on another level at the plate this year. 

Hartshorn started the season at Single-A Myrtle Beach, where he slashed .273/.424/.460 with five home runs, nine doubles, one triple, 25 RBI, and four stolen bases in his first 39 games. Those strong numbers then earned him a promotion to High-A just seven weeks into the season. 

The Cubs’ No. 7 prospect has now continued his elite hitting numbers with the South Bend Cubs. He is batting .395 (17-for-43) with four home runs, three doubles, and 17 RBI in his first 12 games there and has a hit in 11 of those 12 contests.  

Brooks Caple 

Right-handed pitcher Brooks Caple went through some struggles in his first Minor League season in 2025. He finished with a 4.48 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and only 74 strikeouts across 98 ⅓ combined innings pitched at Single-A and Double-A. 

However, Caple looks like a different pitcher on the mound this season. He’s striking out batters more and finally getting strong results on the mound. The Cubs’ No. 14 prospect currently owns a 2.85 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts across 47 ⅓ innings at High-A and Double-A.

Caple is definitely trending up right now. He was promoted from High-A to Double-A earlier last month and has had some impressive performances with the Knoxville Smokies so far. He threw six innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts on May 22 and five innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts on May 31. 

Kaleb Wing 

Kaleb Wing is one of the most exciting pitching arms in the Cubs’ farm system. Chicago selected him in the fourth round of the 2025 MLB Draft and paid him almost double his slot value at $1.5 million. 

Wing is showing exactly why the Cubs paid up to get him in the draft. He has a 0.87 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in his first three starts at Single-A Myrtle Beach. These outings included a four-shutout inning performance with six strikeouts on May 22, a three-scoreless inning gem with four strikeouts on May 28, and a 3 ⅓ innings of one-run ball start with six strikeouts on June 3. 

The 19-year-old is obviously still a very raw prospect, but the upside is there. Wing has dominated in his short time with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and will continue to develop as a pitcher. The Cubs’ No. 11 prospect has a fastball that reaches 96 mph.
