Sachin Tendulkar and India’s current captain Shubman Gill settled into the Royal Box to watch Alexander Zverev face off against Arthur Fery in the tournament’s first men’s singles semifinal.

While Tendulkar remains a familiar presence at the All England Club, this marked Gill’s first-ever experience taking in a Wimbledon match from the most sought-after seats.

The guest list on Centre Court extended well beyond just Gill and Tendulkar. The latter was seated alongside fellow batting great Brian Lara. Beyond cricket, the star-studded gathering also included Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe.

Shubman Gill’s viral moment with Roger Federer

One of the highlights of Gill’s visit came when he crossed paths with tennis icon Roger Federer. A video capturing their interaction quickly spread across social media.

With this appearance, Gill now joins a select group of Indian cricketers to have received a Royal Box invitation, becoming only the fourth Indian captain after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to be granted the honour.

Shubman Gill face a quick turnaround to ODI duty

Gill is set to lead India in a three-match ODI series against England, kicking off on July 14, with further matches scheduled for July 16 and July 19.

He hasn’t featured in T20 internationals for India since being surprisingly dropped from the squad ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
