Dak Prescott had his right hand wrapped after last Sunday’s 34-30 win versus the Houston Texans, but he assured the media that there was no reason to worry. Following a bumpy outing in Thursday’s 24-16 home loss to the formerly winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the star quarterback expressed the same sentiment.

“Absolutely nothing wrong with my hand,” he said, per Calvin Watkins of Dallas Morning News. Fans will be relieved to know that Prescott is not nursing a serious injury after a player stepped on his hand in Houston, but they will still have plenty of questions about this Week 5 outing.

Whether it be Todd Bowles’ defense, an off night, or a combination of both, Prescott was not very sharp against the Bucs. He completed an inefficient 57.1 percent of his passes for 316 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Although the two picks were deflected off his teammates’ hands, he just did not have his usual touch. A hand issue would certainly add some clarity to the struggles.

But why argue with the man? If Prescott insists that he was not physically hindered versus the Buccaneers, then perhaps this was simply a bad game. Unfortunately, the Cowboys do not have the defense to survive a rough showing from their franchise QB.

After striking first via a Javonte Williams touchdown, Dallas surrendered a near-11-minute scoring drive to Tampa. Bucky Irving finished with 175 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns, and Tez Johnson was left wide open for a 64-yard reception. The defense continues to place an unfair burden on the offense’s shoulders.

Though, even if the Christian Parker-led unit held its own, Dak Prescott did not post a winning effort in this one. No. 4 and the Cowboys (2-3) will take the next 10 days to regroup and rest up before squaring off with the Green Bay Packers (2-2) in Lambeau Field.
