Could this be the year Raiders break the streak without defensive shutout?

It’s been a long time since the Raiders shut out an opponent. How long? Well, you may or may be surprised to learn it’s been 13 years. And there’s only five teams in the league who have gone longer.

The only teams who have gong longer without a defensive shutout are the Steelers (14), Bears (15), Jets (16), Giants (16), and Commanders (34).

But with the way the Raiders schedule is looking this season, they may have a pretty good shot at breaking that streak.

It’s not the the Raiders have a particularly easy schedule. They don’t. But it’s the fact that their schedule is bipolar. They seem to face either championship caliber teams or terrible teams. With little in between.

The Raiders’ defense could be decent this season, but this is more about the pathetic offenses they figure to face this season.

Among the teams they face are three teams with glaring QB issues in the Dolphins, Browns, and Cardinals. Three other teams who could find it tough to score a lot of points this season are the Jets, Saints, and Titans.

Jets quarterback Geno Smith was shut out once just last season as QB of the Raiders and two other times failed to reach the end zone. Titans QB Cam Ward was shut out once as well and one other time the Titans failed to score a TD.

Granted not all of these teams will be as bad as they are projected. But there’s a fair chance several of them will be.

As for the Raiders defense, it would appear they did well to upgrade several positions, while seeing few, if any, downgrades. Even the expected loss of Maxx Crosby didn’t end up happening, while they added talent overall at edge rusher.
