Cornish Pirates looked “flat” in their 38-14 loss at Bedford, according to joint-head coach Gavin Cattle.
Having inflicted a first league loss on Ealing since March 2025 last week, Pirates could not back up that win as they conceded five tries at Goldington Road.
A second defeat in four games leaves Pirates eighth in the Champ table.
“We looked flat again,” Cattle told BBC Radio Cornwall.
“This is the second [flat] away trip running… We might have to look at our routine a little bit. I think it was nine or 10 turnovers in that first half.
“We need to reflect on ourselves a bit. We didn’t consistently put patches of play together. [Bedford] they got a few rubs of the green and then they run with that momentum and when they get their tails up, they’re a tough team to stop.”
Dean Adamson gave Bedford a 14th-minute lead but Pirates secured a penalty try five minutes later.
Michael le Bourgeois ensured the hosts went into the break 14-7 up after scoring his side’s second try before the Blues blew Pirates away in the opening 20 minutes of the second half.
Marcus Kershaw scored a minute after the restart before two tries in six minutes from Lucas Titherington secured a bonus point after an hour.
Arthur Relton scored a consolation for Pirates in the final minute.
“When we went forward, we lost the ball, there was no continuity in it,” added Cattle.
“If we’re not getting set-piece shots in their half of the pitch, you’ve got no handle of the game.
“Kicking loosely to Bedford, you’re inviting pressure – there’s a lot of easy fixes in there but I’m pretty disappointed with that performance.
“We’ve just got to take our medicine and react again this week,” he added.
“This block, we set the target of three out of five games because we’ve had five of the top six from last season so we need to perform at home next week against a pretty tough Chinnor team.”
