Continuous ASUU strike in Ondo varsities shameful, unacceptable – NANS

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has described the shut down of Ondo State-owned universities as a shame, which it stressed is no longer acceptable.

The student body stressed this while granting clearance to NANS Joint Campus Committees in Ondo, Niger, Nasarawa, and other states where ASUU is currently on strike to commence massive mobilisation for what it described as a “mother of all protests” in their respective states.

While vowing to take action over the development, NANS in a statement issued at the weekend by its National President, Afeez Akinteye, vowed to gather students from all states currently affected by strikes for protests.

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, had two months ago embarked on strike over non payment of salaries and lack of implementation of the FG-ASUU 2025 agreement by the Ondo State government.

In the statement, NANS ordered a nationwide relocation of its leadership to university campuses beginning next week and directed massive protests in states where ASUU is currently on strike.

Akinteye disclosed that the decision was reached following his return from a two-day engagement with NANS Ghana and the NANS Leadership Boot Camp held in Ghana.

He said “I have given the final clearance to NANS JCC Ondo, NANS JCC Niger, NANS JCC Nasarawa, and other JCCs in states where ASUU is currently on strike to commence mobilisation for a mother of all protests in their respective states.

“The continuous ASUU strike is a shame and is no longer acceptable. Nigerian students have suffered enough. We cannot continue to watch our academic calendars disrupted while our future remains uncertain.

“We demand urgent action. We demand a lasting solution. We demand that students’ time and future be respected.”
