Confirmed: Barcelona secure contract renewal of 18-year-old midfielder until 2030

Barcelona have moved to secure one of their most promising young midfielders for the long term, with the club officially confirming Pedro Villar’s contract renewal until 2030.

At just 18, Villar is already regarded as one of the standout talents coming through La Masia.

The new agreement gives Barcelona security over a player who has steadily risen through the club’s youth system and is now beginning to build a strong case for a bigger role.

Villar is entering his fifth season at Barcelona after joining the club from Val Minor alongside Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez, who now plays at PSG.

His progress has been consistent, but the last campaign was particularly important as he made an impact at two different levels of the academy.

Strong finish with Barça Atletic raised Villar’s profile

Villar’s progress last season was not limited to youth football.

During the second half of the campaign, he became one of the standout performers for Barça Atletic.

The young midfielder made nine appearances in the Segunda Federación and showed that he could handle the demands of a more competitive environment.

Those minutes were an important part of his development.

Moving between youth football and Barça Atlètic requires a player to adapt quickly, particularly in midfield where the physical and tactical demands can change dramatically.

Villar responded well and continued to show the qualities that have made him one of the academy’s most highly regarded prospects.

Barcelona’s decision to secure his future now is therefore a reward for his recent progress, but it is also an investment in what could come next.

The next challenge for the 18-year-old will be to establish himself further with Barça Atlètic while keeping the first team within sight.

Who is Pedro Villar?

What makes Villar’s profile particularly interesting is that he is not simply a traditional holding midfielder.

He can operate as a positional midfielder, providing balance and control, but he also has the instinct to move forward and affect the game in the final third.

That was evident during his season with Juvenil A.

Villar played an important role in Pol Planas’ side and finished the campaign with an impressive 10 goals. Alongside Pedro Rodriguez, he became one of the driving forces behind the team’s attacking output.

Interestingly, his style has even drawn comparisons with Rodri, particularly because of his ability to control the middle of the pitch while still contributing closer to goal.
