Como and AC Milan agree loan-to-buy framework for Samuele Ricci

Como and AC Milan have reached an agreement in principle on a loan-with-option-to-buy structure for midfielder Samuele Ricci, though the move still hinges on Como clearing space in its own midfield first.

According to MilanNews24, the two clubs are aligned on the framework of a loan with a right of redemption, the preferred formula for Milan, which wants to retain long-term control over Ricci’s valuation rather than sell him outright this summer. Como’s side of the deal is not yet finished. The Lombardy club needs at least one departure from its own midfield, with Maxime Caqueret the player most likely to leave, before it can formally bring in Ricci and free up both a squad slot and budget room.

Ricci has fallen behind in Milan’s midfield pecking order this preseason, and a loan to a Serie A rival that plays under a coach who has consistently gotten the best out of technical midfielders makes footballing sense for a player who needs regular minutes to stay in the Italy national team conversation. Como, meanwhile, has spent the past two transfer windows positioning itself as a destination for talented players who need a fresh environment rather than a step down, and a name like Ricci fits that project directly.

Atalanta had also been in the mix for Ricci earlier in August but has paused its pursuit for now, according to the same report, which removes a competing suitor and strengthens Como’s position as talks over the final structure continue. Milan has not disclosed a valuation for the redemption clause, and neither club has confirmed a timeline, but the agreement in principle marks a clear step up from the exploratory contact both sides were engaged in only a few days earlier.

The deal is a useful example of how a transfer with genuine agreement between two clubs can still stall on timing rather than money. Milan and Como are not negotiating over whether Ricci moves, but over what has to happen elsewhere in Como’s squad before the paperwork can follow. Como fans should expect movement on this one to track directly with news of a Caqueret departure, since that is now the clearest remaining obstacle between agreement and completion.
