The Washington Commanders disappointed again on Sunday, falling to the Los Angeles Rams 20-13.

Trailing 20-13, Washington began its final offensive possession on its own 9-yard line after a Rams punt. Quarterback Jayden Daniels found wide receiver Stefon Diggs up the right sideline for 42 yards, all the way to the Rams’ 49. The Rams’ loafing to the ball was then penalized five yards for being offside, so the Commanders were now at the Rams’ 44 with 31 seconds remaining.

Daniels then went incomplete, scrambled out of bounds for one yard, and on third down found Van Jefferson for 12 yards and another Washington first down at the Rams’ 31. Two more incompletions followed, with Daniels setting up the final snap: a third-and-10 at the Rams’ 31.

Daniels passed to tight end Chig Okonkwo, who made it to the Rams’ 11 but then lateraled backward; after two scrambles, the Rams recovered at the 20 to end the game. With the win, the Rams are 5-4, and Washington falls to 2-5-1. Myles Garrett, returning to the Rams after an opening-game knee injury, was dominant, recording three QB sacks and forcing a Daniels fumble.

Rams receiver Puka Nacua schooled the Commanders’ secondary all day with 14 receptions for 150 yards and the go-ahead touchdown, giving the Rams a 20-13 lead.

The Commanders had scored the first two times they had the ball, driving 11 plays for 48 yards and a Drew Stevens field goal for a 3-0 first-quarter lead. With the score tied 3-3, Washington drove 80 yards in six plays, scoring on Daniels 7-yard touchdown pass to Van Jefferson for a 10-3 lead in the second quarter. Earlier in the drive, Daniels threw 18 yards to Antonio Williams, then a 45-yard screen pass to Rachaad White, setting up Jefferson’s touchdown catch.
