Commanders becoming clear top landing spot for Stefon Diggs

If you’re a fan of the Washington Commanders, you probably think the team needs more help at wide receiver. Terry McLaurin is still a solid top option, but rookie Antonio Williams, Luke McCaffrey, Dyami Brown and Jaylin Lane are among the other options.

The Commanders have thus been linked to several receivers this offseason. The embattled Brandon Aiyuk has even gone so far as to publicly say he will sign with the Commanders as soon as the San Francisco 49ers release him. However, what if the Commanders are planning to go a different route?

Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs is still on the market and seems to have his legal issues straightened out now. It’s been rumored for months that Diggs and his brother would be interested in teaming up on the Commanders, considering they are Maryland natives.

Recently, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report added more fuel to the fire. Moton named the Commanders as the best landing spot for Diggs ahead of the 2026 season. Moton offered the following:

In a recent interview with Fox 5, Diggs discussed the possibility of playing in the DMV area, where he grew up:

“I did have a small piece of me like, damn, it would be great to come home and play and play in front of the fans I used to play in front of as a young adolescent in college and just kind of doing something for the city. That definitely would be a moment. Hopefully, things do work out.”

Diggs could sign a homecoming contract with the Commanders in the coming weeks.

It definitely seems like Diggs wants it, and it would make sense for the roster, so maybe a deal will end up getting done soon.

In 2025, Diggs played in 17 games for the New England Patriots and caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. The veteran helped the Patriots make it all the way to the Super Bowl and was a key part of the offense. However, the Patriots cut him after just one season, and he’s been on the market ever since.

Diggs has earned four Pro Bowl selections in his career and even received some Comeback Player of the Year votes in 2025. He could be a perfect complement to McLaurin, and the idea of playing with Jayden Daniels has to be exciting. With Diggs in tow, the Commanders could start McLaurin, Diggs, and Williams, with McCaffrey, Lane, and Dyami Brown as the top depth options.
