After spending seven seasons in Indianapolis, it’s hard to imagine star NFL running back Jonathan Taylor playing for another franchise. But that might soon be the reality.
Reports on Saturday indicate that the Colts are not only open to trading their veteran running back, but are also in “active and ongoing talks” with multiple franchises interested in acquiring Taylor. Among the teams that have reached out are the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks.

Taylor reportedly met this week with Colts owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon to discuss his future with the organization. Irsay-Gordon reportedly prefers to keep Taylor on the roster, and the Colts are expected to seek a compensation package similar to the 49ers’ offer to the Panthers for Christian McCaffrey in 2022: a second-round, third-round, fourth-round, and fifth-round pick.
Taylor is currently under contract in 2027 for $15 million and in 2028 for $9.46 million, and is coming off the second-best season of his career – rushing for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns last year, while posting a career-high 378 receiving yards. This season, he has run for 587 yards and eight touchdowns and added 178 receiving yards.
Taylor is not the only player the Colts are looking at shipping off with the trade deadline approaching – they’ve already traded Pro Bowl players in offensive guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner within the past week, and are also in talks to send wide receiver Josh Downs to a new team after he requested a trade. Downs and Taylor are both expected to play against the Jaguars this week.
