Colorado athletic director condemns Brendan Sorsby injunction ruling

Lovo, who was hired by Colorado last winter, called the injunction a “clear affront to the competitive principles” of college sports and said the school would be working with the Big 12 Conference and its fellow Big 12 peers on the issue. The Buffs are set to host the Red Raiders on Oct. 3 at Folsom Field for Colorado’s homecoming game.

Lovo did not mention the game’s future in his statement. A report by Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger states that Big 12 athletic directors were considering not playing Texas Tech in any sport.

“The injunction issued today regarding Brendan Sorsby is doubling as his admitted actions are a clear violation of long-held standards of integrity in college athletics,” Lovo said in his statement.

Sorsby admitted to gambling on his own team during his time at Indiana, but was made eligible by a ruling by Lubbock County Judge Ken Curry, who granted the quarterback an injunction against the NCAA. Sorsby played at Cincinnati last year and was one of Texas Tech’s most significant additions in the transfer portal this offseason.

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark released a statement earlier on Monday, acknowledging concerns within the conference and saying he had scheduled a meeting with the ADs and the conference’s executive board for this week. Dellenger reported that the Big 12 athletic directors are scheduled to meet on Tuesday, with the Big 12 presidents expected to meet later in the week.

Across the country, Nebraska and Georgia’s athletic departments have issued mandates to cancel any future scheduling agreements with Texas Tech. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the Big Ten is expected to discuss a league-wide mandate to follow suit and not play the Red Raiders in any sports.

It seems, once again, that the college football paradigm has been thrown out of whack, with the rest of the Big 12 and Colorado at an important pivot point.
