Colin Cowherd is out on Broncos QB Bo Nix: ‘He’s getting in the way’

The Denver Broncos looked as bad as any team in the league in Week 1, suffering a 31-10 defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. In that game, Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker rushed for 173 yards. As a team, the Broncos had only 176 yards of total offense.

Bo Nix played one of the worst games in his young career thus far, throwing an interception on his first pass attempt of the night. It was all downhill from there as he was under constant duress and averaged less than five yards per completion.

Colin Cowherd, host of The Herd on FS1, has long supported Nix and this Broncos team. That seems to have all changed with the outcome of this game. On Monday, Cowherd had this to say:

“I look at this thing right now and I’m telling you: Bo Nix is in trouble… He is getting in the way.”@colincowherd is OUT on Bo Nix after his disastrous game against the Chiefs pic.twitter.com/5NOo7KhBPi

“Bo Nix is still in that, ‘Do we make him the future [or] phase of his contract?’ Right now, you can’t,” Cowherd said on The Herd.

“Bo Nix was a talented executor. Could he become an elevator? No, he’s category three now, he’s getting in the way. Again, I’m not saying to bench him, but not only is there a gap between (Patrick) Mahomes and Bo Nix, there is now a gap between Jackson Dart and Bo Nix”.

Wow. Cowherd has certainly jumped to the other side of the fence here and to call this take outrageous would be a major understatement. It’s mind-boggling to see some of the overreactions to this Denver loss. Yes, it was bad. Yes, it was ugly. But now, after one game, Nix is below Jackson Dart, and Drake Maye is “special… raw, but special,” according to Cowherd.

It’s simply ridiculous.

And as Cowherd sat in this rant, “The NFL is what have you done for me weekly, not lately, weekly,” If Nix bounces back next week and puts on a huge performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars, is he going to jump back to the other side of the fence?

One game. It was one game. Those in the media should wait until there is a bit of a downward trend, at the very least, before taking this kind of a stance.
