Club ready to sell midfielder in order to make place for Liverpool star Curtis Jones

Inter Milan could sacrifice Davide Frattesi before the transfer deadline as Cristian Chivu continues pushing for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.

The Serie A champions have identified Jones as a priority addition, but completing the deal appears closely connected to creating both financial and squad space.

Frattesi is therefore increasingly likely to become available, despite remaining under contract at San Siro.

It could create an intriguing opportunity for Juventus, who have long admired the Italy international and are keeping an eye on developments.

Inter Milan planning to seal Jones signing

According to Tuttosport, Inter believe departures for Frattesi and Kristjan Asllani are necessary before they can make their decisive move for Jones.

Chivu has been keen on the Liverpool midfielder for several months and reportedly wanted him as far back as January.

Frattesi endured a difficult 2025-26 campaign, making 33 appearances but starting only six and failing to register a goal or assist.

Inter value him at around €30 million, although Tuttosport suggests an offer worth roughly €25m including bonuses could be enough to secure approval. Juventus remain among his possible destinations, with Luciano Spalletti an admirer.

The situation has advanced further regarding Jones. Tuttosport’s latest update claims Inter already have an agreement with the England international, while Liverpool continue to demand around €40m.

Selling Frattesi makes sense to make way for Liverpool star

This feels increasingly like a straight squad-management decision rather than Inter simply wanting rid of Frattesi.

Jones would offer Chivu a different midfield profile: technically comfortable, physically strong and capable of operating in several roles. Inter clearly believe those qualities could translate particularly well to Serie A.

Liverpool, however, still hold leverage. The Guardian previously reported that Inter were prepared to reach €35m while Liverpool valued Jones closer to €40m.

With only one year left on his contract, that gap could become easier to bridge as the deadline approaches.

For Frattesi, Juventus would be an interesting reset after a frustrating season. Regular football under a coach who appreciates his qualities could revive his career.

If Inter can move Frattesi for around €25-30m and reinvest that money in Jones, the logic is understandable. But given Jones’ own lack of guaranteed starts at Liverpool, Inter would still be betting heavily that Chivu can unlock another level from him.
