Liverpool Women are preparing to visit Manchester United this weekend and though there is a raft of injury updates on other players, the important one is the player that had to be stretchered off in the midweek win over Birmingham City in the Subway Players Cup.
The club confirmed on Friday afternoon that Aurelie Csillag suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during the match, and will be out indefinitely as they meet with a specialist and discuss next steps for her recovery.
The injury is surely a blow to a player that was just getting her feet under her at a new club, and though the return of Sophie Roman Haug and Marie Höbinger will lessen the blow, Roman Haug also suffered a metatarsal injury that will keep her out a little longer.
“Roman Haug has also picked up a problem, a metatarsal injury. We’re just trying to establish the details of that and how long that will keep her out,” Taylor said of the injuries in his pre-match presser.
“Of course losing Aurélie [Csillag] is an opportunity for Roman Haug but we’re going to have to be patient with that one. She’s not going to be ready for a few weeks.”
Taylor also gave updates on Mari Ward, Lucy Parry, and Mao Itamura that were a little more positive, although Ward and Parry also still set to miss out on the trip to Manchester on Sunday.
“Lucy Parry and Mari Ward are that bit closer,” the coach continued.
“They won’t be in the squad this weekend but I think having them back after the international break is going to be really important, because I think we have nine games between the next international break and the one afterwards.
“In terms of tomorrow, we’ll get Itamura back and available with the squad, which is good news. That’s a positive.”
Liverpool Women play Manchester United Women on Saturday, 10/3 at 1:30pm BST, and will be on BBC if you can get it.
