Cincinnati Reds lose another player to injury in Diamondbacks opener

PHOENIX – Just when it looked like the Cincinnati Reds’ depth issues in their lineup couldn’t get any worse, Michael Toglia suffered a right shoulder dislocation making a diving catch in the first inning of the Reds’ series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday (Aug. 21).

Justin Lebron, Reds’ first-round pick, has 4 HRs in 8 games at Dayton

Toglia, the former Colorado Rockies infielder who made his Reds debut less than two weeks ago, was making his second appearance in left field for the Reds Friday when Geraldo Perdomo drove a ball to the gap that Toglia caught with a dive across the turf at Chase Field for the second out of the inning.

He grimaced in pain as he tossed the ball to center fielder Dane Myers, then clutched his glove (right) arm and lay on the ground until the trainer and manager arrived.

He left the game, his arm supported by trainer Sean McQueeney.

TJ Friedl replaced him in left field.
