Cillian Murphy's Next Horror Movie Is Perfect For Anyone Waiting For 28 Years Later 3
Cillian Murphy and Jack O’Connell’s roles in one major upcoming 2027 horror movie make it a perfect prequel of sorts for those eager to see 28 Years Later 3 when it finally debuts later on too. Though 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple was the lowest-grossing movie in the 28 Days Later series thus far, it does balance out this financial result with some seriously solid reviews, making the future of the franchise still seem bright.
Though plans for 28 Years Later 3 are in the works, complications around filming appear to have pushed back its production process, meaning it could still be quite some time before this next chapter is revealed to us on-screen. This leaves the series currently on something of a major cliffhanger, as 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple‘s ending closes with the return of its biggest hero and actor, given our final moments show us Cillian Murphy’s horror film character years after we last saw him both in-universe and in the series itself.
With that said, those champing at the bit for 28 Years Later 3 or something like it – or who simply were delighted by the stand-out performances of Cillian Murphy and Jack O’Connell in the film – do have something seriously promising on the near horizon when it comes to 2027, as another horror franchise is bringing both actors back to the big screen for another engaging movie story in the meanwhile.

A Quiet Place Part III is set to continue its story by delving more into the arc and life of Cillian Murphy’s Emmett, following his introduction in A Quiet Place Part II. Based on Collider’s interview with Jack O’Connell, Cillian Murphy’s story will be intertwined with that of Jack O’Connell, who is set to play Emmett’s brother in the third film.
This is interesting in that Cillian Murphy and Jack O’Connell are also both key figures within another major horror series that’s had new chapters recently, via their appearances in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, wherein Cillian Murphy returned as original protagonist Jim after years away from the franchise, and O’Connell started as the 2026 movie’s central antagonist.
As such, it’s even more intriguing to note the duo will be appearing in another horror series sequel together, this time in roles wherein they’re likely to share screentime directly, rather than just being in the same film.
Given the integral importance Murphy and O’Connell’s 28 Years Later characters are sure to have for the next chapter of the zombie movie series – thanks to Jim’s return and the trauma Jimmy instilled on everyone – A Quiet Place Part III is even more worth watching for fans of their other work, since A Quiet Place Part III can thus serve as a somewhat inadvertent form of connective tissue for the other series, and as a way to tide viewers over during the wait for 28 Years Later 3 while being an interesting movie in its own right.

A Quiet Place Part III is set to be especially intriguing for 28 Years Later fans in that it allows Cillian Murphy and Jack O’Connell to interact on-screen in a way it seems we’ll never get in the 28 Years Later series without some serious plot twists unfurling.
Though both actors are in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, they’re in decidedly different roles. Cillian Murphy’s Jim returns in The Bone Temple‘s very final scenes to set up for 28 Years Later 3, whereas O’Connell’s Jimmy appears to die in The Bone Temple‘s ending, meaning the two meeting would require a pretty major plot twist in terms of revealing Jimmy’s death didn’t actually happen in the prior film.
Given the talent of these two actors, though, this is still a missed opportunity of sorts for the 28 Years Later franchise and 28 Years Later 3 especially, making it all the more exciting that we will still seemingly get to see Cillian Murphy and Jack O’Connell acting alongside one another soon when A Quiet Place 3 debuts in 2027.
