Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy’s wife Mia shot at couples home

Kansas City Chiefs training camp kicked into full swing over the weekend, with the second practice at Missouri Western State ahead of the 2026-27 NFL season. But while offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was working with the team, his wife, Mia, was shot in their Virginia home.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the terrifying news that the 57-year-old Mia was being treated for “serious injuries.”

Police did not initially reveal the victim’s identity, but confirmed on Monday that an incident occurred on Sunday night. Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leah Pau said police arrived at the Bieniemy home around 7:32 p.m. ET.

The Chiefs released a statement saying they are “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” but no further details were revealed.

Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs this offseason for his second stint with the team, after previously serving as running backs coach (2013-2017) and offensive coordinator (2018-2022) during his first stint with the team.

During that first stint, Bieniemy and the Chiefs won two Super Bowls.

He had brief stops with the Washington Commanders, UCLA Bruins, and Chicago Bears after leaving Kansas City, but returned to the team as it looks to bounce-back from a disappointing end to its 2025 campaign.

This is a developing story. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
