It has been a long 10 months for the Mahomes family since Patrick suffered the torn ACL injury in December 2025. He has been working all offseason towards his return, and the time has finally come.

Patrick Mahomes’ return from torn ACL injury in Chiefs’ Week 1 opener vs. Broncos

Mahomes is back in the lineup for the Chiefs’ Week 1 game against the Broncos, their division rivals. He had worked for months to get his knee ready to go for the start of the season.

However, he did not play in the preseason at all. It remains to be seen how long it will take him to get reacclimated to the game after having several months off.

The Broncos will be a tough test, especially given their defense. Luckily, Mahomes won’t have to do it all by himself, as the Chiefs acquired Kenneth Walker III during the offseason. Walker was named Super Bowl MVP after the Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots in February.

Kansas City is hoping for a major rebound in 2026. The Chiefs went 6-11 in 2025, finishing in third place in the AFC West and missing the playoffs for the first time in the Mahomes era.

This 6-11 finish came on the heels of making their third Super Bowl in a row, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in a blowout in Super Bowl 59. Now, the Chiefs are hoping to return to form and win Mahomes’ fourth Super Bowl ring.
