The 2021 season for the Kansas City Chiefs was the final year of safety Tyrann Mathieu‘s run with the team. It was also the rookie year for linebacker Nick Bolton.
The second-round pick from Missouri was just a part-time playmaker for the defense that year before ascending to the full-time middle linebacker position in 2022. Now a pillar of the unit that Mathieu was when he first arrived in the league, Bolton draws from that year together to lead his young teammates.
When mentoring second-year linebacker Jeffrey Bassa, Bolton relayed a message that the “Honey Badger” gave him as a rookie.
“You have to take advantage of every opportunity you get,” Bolton said. “You can’t count how many you’re going to get, but every one that you do get, make it count.
“Tyrann gave me that same message when I was a rookie. He’s the original 32. I’m just trying to wear it how he wore it.”

Hicks was a defensive standout on Monday with multiple impact plays, which included an interception over the middle during a 7-on-7 period and a diving pass-breakup amidst 11-on-11 red zone drills.
The third-year safety has a major opportunity in front of him with former safety Bryan Cook no longer on the team, and at least so far, Hicks appears to be off to a strong start.

The 49ers declined to specify where McCaffrey is experiencing the tightness, but offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak said after practice that the team is not concerned about the injury.
“No, just managing,” Kubiak said. “A little sore, but he’s doing fine, so we’re just managing him as we go.”

The 49ers declined to specify where McCaffrey is experiencing the tightness, but offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak said after practice that the team is not concerned about the injury.

The deal includes $101 million guaranteed with $63.35 million guaranteed at signing, according to sources. Williams also received a signing bonus of $31.85 million, a source said.

Williams, 28, had been signed through 2027 in a four-year extension worth $96 million that guaranteed him $66 million from the New York Jets in 2023. He is now signed through 2030.
