‘Chicago P.D’ Is Officially Changing a Key Formula Next Week

Last year, Derek Haas took his talents to Prime Video for the new crime thriller series, Countdown, which stars Jensen Ackles. The show came out of the gate with poor reviews, and while it was able to turn things around throughout the course of its first season, it was still canceled after only one season. Haas, who is also known for his work writing other projects over the years such as Christian Bale and Russell Crowe‘s 3:10 to Yuma, has plenty of other things to fall back on, even though he won’t be writing another season of Countdown. The series of projects that take up most of Derek Haas’ time is One Chicago, which consists of the trio of interweaving procedurals, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. Each show has been on the air for over 10 years.

Chicago Fire, which premiered in 2012, has been around the longest, and Chicago Med is the newest show, having premiered in 2015. Between the two, NBC introduced Chicago P.D., which features stars like Jason Beghe as Frank Voight, who has also starred in other procedural shows such as Law & Order: SVU. Chicago P.D. is now in the heat of its 14th season, and the next episode is set to arrive on NBC on November 11 before it begins streaming on Peacock the following day. NBC even released a new description of the next episode, which teases that the officers will have to use a “different style of community policing” while working a kidnapping case in Chicago’s Chinatown area, which officially changes the formula they’ve used for so many years.

The ensemble cast for Chicago P.D. consists of Jason Beghe as Hank Voight, Marina Squerciati as Kim Burgess, Patrick John Flueger as Adam Ruzek, Amy Morton as Trudy Platt, LaRoyce Hawkins as Kevin Atwater, Jesse Lee Soffer as Jay Halstead, and Tracy Spiridakos as Hailey Upton. The fate of Chicago P.D. beyond Season 14 has not yet been decided, but it would be quite surprising if NBC decided to uproot the show while continuing its counterparts. What would be even more shocking is if all three were canceled while they remain three of the most-watched shows on network TV, so it’s a safe bet they’ll be around for at least a few more years.

Check out new episodes of Chicago P.D. every week on NBC and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the One Chicago franchise.
