Chelsea vs Tottenham: Preview, team news, possible line-ups
Chelsea will look to extend their winning run in the Premier League when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in a London derby that could have significant implications for both sides.
Chelsea have won four, drawn one and lost two of their opening seven league matches, leaving them in the top four. Their recent results have also boosted confidence, with a 5-1 victory over Bournemouth followed by a 2-0 win away to Everton last weekend.
Pedro Neto scored twice against Everton as Chelsea ended a run of 22 Premier League matches without a clean sheet. The Blues will now attempt to record three consecutive league victories for the first time since February.
The West London club have won their last six league meetings with Tottenham. Another victory on Saturday would set a new club record for consecutive league wins against their London rivals.
Tottenham, meanwhile, ended a six-game winless start to the league campaign with a 3-1 victory over Coventry. James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies scored to give Roberto De Zerbi’s side a much-needed result.
The win was Tottenham’s fourth Premier League victory in 2026 and the first time in 36 top-flight matches that they had scored more than twice.
Despite the result, Spurs remain 16th in the table, although they are only three points behind the top nine. They will need to improve their away record against Chelsea to secure another positive result.
Tottenham have won only once in their last 34 Premier League visits to Stamford Bridge, recording 11 draws and 24 defeats. Their most recent victory there came in the 2017-18 season, when Mauricio Pochettino guided them to a 3-1 win.
Spurs have also lost their last six London derbies in the league and will be keen to avoid extending that run.
Team news
Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is set to miss the match after undergoing surgery for a fractured jaw sustained during the win over Everton.
He joins Reece James, Jamie Gittens, Pep Chavarria and Emmanuel Emegha on the injury list. Malo Gusto, however, is available again after recovering from illness.
Mike Penders is expected to start in goal in Martinez’s absence. The 21-year-old could become Chelsea’s youngest goalkeeper to start a Premier League match.
For Tottenham, Rodrigo Bentancur remains suspended and will serve the second match of his three-game ban. Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall and Destiny Udogie are also sidelined with knee injuries, while Savio is unavailable because of a muscle problem.
Mykhaylo Mudryk, who is on loan from Chelsea, is ineligible to face his parent club and is also recovering from an ankle injury.
Tosin Adarabioyo is a doubt with a calf problem, but Pedro Porro, Omar Marmoush and Andrew Robertson have been passed fit to play.
Possible line-ups
Chelsea: Penders; Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill; Neto, Caicedo, Henderson, Hato; Palmer, Rogers; Pedro.
Tottenham Hotspur: Kinsky; Gray, Van Hecke, Van de Ven, Robertson; Gallagher, Tonali, Maddison; Kudus and other attacking options to be confirmed.
