Chelsea super subs inspire turnaround as Blues hit Leeds for six

Cole Palmer came off the bench to inspire a remarkable Chelsea comeback as Xabi Alonso’s side beat Leeds United 6-3 to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Leeds looked on course for an upset when Tarik Muharemovic headed them ahead midway through the first half, before Brenden Aaronson doubled the advantage shortly after the restart, after Palmer, Pedro Neto, Reece James and Morgan Rogers had all been introduced at half-time.

Palmer soon made his mark, however, converting from the penalty spot before finding the bottom corner moments later to bring Chelsea level.

Neto then completed the turnaround on the hour mark before Danny Welbeck made it 4-2 as Chelsea scored four times in a remarkable 12-minute spell.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one back for Daniel Farke’s side to briefly threaten another twist, but Chelsea responded again, with Valentin Barco adding a fifth before Welbeck grabbed his second deep into stoppage time.

Rogers continued his fine start to life at Stamford Bridge by setting up three of Chelsea’s six goals.
