Chargers tabbed as potential landing spot for former top-three pick

The Chargers were linked to former No. 3 overall pick, defensive lineman Solomon Thomas.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox listed the Chargers as a potential suitor.

“The Tennessee Titans acquired Thomas in an offseason trade with the Dallas Cowboys. Adding him made some sense, as it reunited Thomas with new Titans head coach Robert Saleh. However, Thomas will be a free agent in 2027. After getting blown out in Week 1, it’s hard to imagine Tennessee becoming playoff-relevant before then,” Knox wrote.

“Thomas probably isn’t a starter at this stage of his career, but the 30-year-old recorded 27 tackles and three tackles for loss in a rotational role with Dallas last season.”

The 49ers selected Thias with the third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. However, he failed to live up to expectations in San Francsio, as he collected only six sacks in four seasons with the team.

In 10 NFL seasons, Thomas has played for five teams, including the 49ers, Raiders, Jets, Cowboys and Titans.

Thomas joined Tennessee this offseason after the Titans traded for him in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick. Although Thomas hasn’t lived up to draft expectations, he’s built a solid career.

In 132 games, Thomas has tallied 239 total tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 53 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles and 18.5 sacks.

While Thomas has been a solid NFL player, adding him to the Chargers wouldn’t necessarily represent an upgrade.

The Chargers’ defensive line is strong, and that likely wouldn’t change much with Thomas in the mix.

However, adding him as a depth piece could be worth exploring as a short-term move, especially if Los Angeles would only have to give up a seventh-round pick.
