Chargers' 0-2 start is something the NFL rarely sees

The Chargers have suffered brutal back-to-back losses to start the season. 

Los Angeles opens the season 0-2 after many thought they’d start undefeated, especially against the Cardinals and Raiders to kick things off.

Instead, the Chargers are winless, and their games have been eerily similar against “lesser opponents.” 

Not only did they lose, but the way they lost has left many speculating on whether the Chargers can bounce back at all. 

ESPN Insights shared that the Chargers are the fourth team in NFL history to start the season 0-2 despite facing opponents who won three or fewer games the previous season. 

The Chargers join the 1995 Jaguars, 1942 Lions and 1934 Cincinnati Reds. Those teams finished a combined 4-31.

It’s been a nightmare of a start for a Chargers team that entered the season with lofty expectations. 

The offense was expected to elevate under Mike McDaniel; however, that’s been far from the case. The defense was expected to pick up right where it left off, despite Jesse Minter departing for the Ravens head coaching job, that’s also been far from the case.

Instead, those two phases of the ball have been mediocre at best and special teams has been a disaster as well. 

These next few weeks look overwhelming for a team that has been underwhelming to start the season.
