The Celtics face the Nets on Tuesday, which also doubles as the first time they have a back-to-back this season. That’s important because it remained to be seen if the C’s would rest certain guys for injury management. For now, the C’s look like they’ll be at full strength for the 7:30 p.m. game at TD Garden.
Derrick White is listed as probable with right hip synovitis. Two-way guard Devin Carter remains out as he returns from mononucleosis. Notably, Carter was around the team Monday and on the bench in Boston’s win over Chicago, so that’s a positive sign that he’s at least slowly making his way back.
The C’s having a lean injury report is also a plus. There were guys like Mitchell Robinson, Paul George and even Jayson Tatum whose workloads will be monitored over the course of the season. Those guys have had their injury issues over the past few years, which is why there was a chance they could have sat Monday.
However, the Celtics do have two days off until the next game, which is a rematch against the Bulls on Friday at TD Garden. So even though it is the second game of a back-to-back Tuesday, it isn’t part of an overall stressful part of the schedule. It’s also a positive that the C’s have stayed injury-free through the first three games.
The schedule picks up with games and travel significantly come November. Expect the C’s to be strategic with rest and injury over the next several weeks due to the wear-and-tear. The league calendar has featured a heavy November schedule in the past few years because of the NBA Cup. Since teams need to have open dates if they advance further in the in-season tourney, that leave off-day gaps in December.
The Celtics are 2-1 and on a two-game winning streak, which includes the blowout win over the Bulls on Monday. They’ll look to keep up the momentum as the 0-3 Nets are in town Tuesday.
