Celtic targeting five first team additions before transfer deadline

Celtic are reportedly looking at making five additions before the transfer window closes. Celtic require to finalise their squad for the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday evening, after the FT whistle sounds against Aberdeen. The Scottish Champions are chasing a number of players and it is expected that they are in the market for five players.

Martin O’Neill’s side are reportedly in the hunt for two defenders – a left and right back – as they look to supplement the backline. Kieran Tierney is the only recognised LB at the club while Alistair Johnston is expected to be out until October with a knock. Reports in France have suggested that Celtic are keen on signing Eintracht Frankfurt’s Niels Nkounkou, who has been heavily linked with OGC Nice.

The Hoops are also closing in on a deal for Parma midfielder Oliver Sorensen, with the Dane expected to arrive on an initial loan deal with ann option to buy. Then, PSV Eindhoven’s Joel van den Berg is due to sign on the dotted line as he looks to sign a deal until 2030 with a fee in excess of £3.5m for the Dutch U19 Internationalist.

The Scottish Champions are in talks to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. The 33-year-old has fallen down the pecking order with the EFL Championship side after their relegation from the top flight. Celtic are reportedly keen on the four-cap England Internationalist as they look to secure a loan deal for the ex-Crystal Palace and West Brom keeper.

It looks as if it will be a frantic end to the transfer window, something that many had hoped would have been avoided given the claim that the club had learned lessons from previous windows.
