CBS Officially Introduces Fire Country’s Bode & Gabriela Replacement

· · 4 min read

Warning! SPOILERS about Sheriff Country season 2, episode 5 & Fire Country season 5, episode 5 ahead.Bode and Gabriela’s romance was at the heart of Fire Country season 1’s story, and one pairing in season 5 can finally bring back the magic of their romance. Since its very beginning, Fire Country centered on Bode’s journey to serve his community and shave time off his sentence, making his time at Three Rock his one shot at redemption. Bode’s arrival at Three Rock and Edgewater nevertheless coincided with Gabriela’s entrance into his life, immediately intertwining their connection with his path away from incarceration.

Gabriela being Manny’s daughter, a civilian, and on a journey to find her own path in life quickly turned the spark she shared with Bode into a compelling development due to its aura of forbidden romance. Bode equating the possibility of being with Gabriela with his future freedom effectively turned his bond with Gabriela into his main reason for hope, making their connection much bigger than any given romance, as there were so many obstacles to their being together. This led Bode and Gabriela’s relationship to crash and burn, but it also imbued Fire Country with compelling drama.

No matter how many love interests Bode went through in Fire Country, no other pairing of his was as significant as the one with Gabriela. Still, Bode and Gabriela’s relationship lost momentum after it couldn’t be explored, even once Bode was released. Gabriela’s departure put an end to the pairing, at least for now, but the Fire Country/Sheriff Country crossover event introduced their perfect replacement in the pairing of inmate firefighter Tex and Mickey’s daughter, Skye Fox.

Tex & Skye’s Connection Makes Them Bode & Gabriela’s Perfect Replacement

If Sheriff Country season 2, episode 5 introduced Tex and Skye as a potential pairing through Tex’s clunky attempts at communicating with Skye through Eve in a bid not to break rules, Fire Country season 5, episode 5 expanded on it by having them work together to solve the case. The hostage situation in Sheriff Country and the race to save Manny and Mickey in Fire Country gave Skye and Tex’s interactions little chance to go beyond the emergency at the crossover’s center, but it’s their roles that make them the perfect Bode and Gabriela replacement.

Tex and Skye’s personal storylines place them at the same crossroads Bode and Gabriela found themselves in in Fire Country season 1. Tex is First Saw within Three Rock, and on a path to better himself after the challenges among Three Rock’s new inmate group in Fire Country season 4. Like Gabriela was unsure about returning to diving, Skye doesn’t know what to do after her course’s end. Skye’s mother being Edgewater’s Sheriff is a major obstacle to a budding relationship between Skye and Tex, and its biggest draw, as it lends their bond an air of forbidden romance.

Mickey’s worry that Skye might relapse as a result of things going well, but Skye feeling aimless as she revealed in Sheriff Country season 2, episode 5, also adds another layer of challenge for the couple. The premise for the development of their relationship thus makes their romance chaotically drama-filled before it even begins, despite their going about it the right way, as they seemingly followed Eve’s instructions about adding Skye to Tex’s visitors list.

How Tex & Skye Taking Over From Bode & Gabriela Solves A Major Fire Country Problem

Although Bode and Gabriela’s romance was undoubtedly the most eventful in Fire Country, their timing was always wrong. Indeed, while they spent Fire Country season 1 entirely in sync, Bode’s decision to sacrifice himself and go back to prison at the end of the season proved the beginning of the end for them. Gabriela’s Fire Country season 2 storyline revolving all around her getting married didn’t help, as it didn’t highlight her and Bode being made for one another, only her not being ready to get married.

Fire Country season 3 giving Bode and Gabriela a real chance to be together only for the pair not to be on the same wavelength put their romance on hold, but it’s Gabriela’s departure in Fire Country season 4’s premiere that definitively ended it. All the chaos forced Bode and Gabriela to spend the vast majority of Fire Country seasons 1 to 3 apart, never having a chance to thoroughly explore their relationship. Gabriela’s departure solved this problem by removing her from the equation, but that also meant Fire Country didn’t have any other central, impactful relationship like theirs.

Fire Country introducing Tex and Skye’s connection subtly and their not being protagonists of either Fire Country or Sheriff Country gives their romance a bigger chance of success, as it can be developed in the background from Fire Country or Sheriff Country‘s main stories. This can let Tex and Skye’s dynamic embody the qualities of what made Bode and Gabriela great in Fire Country without sidetracking either Sheriff Country or its parent series.
